Embedded Software Engineer

Infinity Avionics (IA) is proudly an Australian start-up company that develops new space sensor technologies for the Australian and international markets. Our team at Infinity Avionics, experienced in electronics design for space applications, project management, systems engineering, defence, and manufacturing, have contributed heavily to several Australian CubeSat missions over the years; Buccaneer Risk Mitigation Mission, UNSW Canberra Space M1, M2 Pathfinder and M2 mission series to name a few; achieving Test Readiness Level (TRL) 9 for most of our technologies, some of which have been in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) for at least 12 months without performance degradation.

Infinity Avionics houses expertise to develop space-based sensor technologies and currently offers payload development services to Australian customers, including high resolution space-based optical sensors. In parallel, Infinity Avionics continues commercialisation of existing products including engineering cameras and flight computers to customers in Australia, and internationally. Our aim is to develop a comprehensive portfolio of space-based sensor products suitable for use in the LEO environment, followed by radiation hardening and re-design of said products to make them suitable for use on GEO spacecraft and missions in the Lunar environment and beyond.  Role Description:

In this role, the successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary team to develop embedded software for Infinity Avionics computers which will be integrated on various spacecraft and launched to space. This will involve understanding the electronics design intent and developing low-level firmware to control various peripherals, such as; memories, image sensors, and interact with the underlying FPGA device. The role will also require sound unit level and functional testing of the developed software as well as producing documentation for internal and external purposes. Possibility of remote work may be considered.   


  • Work with a team of engineers, interfacing with electronics and software engineers to develop software for FPGA based System on Chip (SoC) and sensor systems, and embedded software for ARM processors and RISC-V processors
  • Produce clear documentation for internal and customer use, including design documentation, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system requirements, test documentation and reports.
  • Develop application software to run within a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and/or embedded Linux.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests within a continuous integration framework
  • Manage tasks, provide status updates and interface with other team members, reporting to the Electronics Engineering Lead.


  • Tertiary or trade equivalent qualifications such as an Electronic Engineering Degree or Computer Science Degree.
  • Experience in the design, development and test of embedded software using C/C++.
  • Experience in the design, development and in-circuit debugging of basic microprocessor systems, embedded hardware device control and communication protocols such as SPI, RS422, and Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of RTOS concepts and experience in FreeRTOS coding.
  • Experience in using debugging tools such as logic analyzers and understanding of electronic schematics.
  • Experience working with FPGA devices preferred but not essential.
